I was working on a new design for the site the other day on my local machine when for some strange reason I couldn’t load the site. Nothing I tried worked. Even the main root folder wasn’t showing with the default Apache page. ‘Shite’ I thought to myself. I tried re-starting web sharing, nothing. I tried repairing permissions, nothing. Uh oh! All the data was still in the Webserver folder so I couldn’t figure it out. Then I remembered that I had been playing around with Virtual Hosts and their configuration. A couple of days earlier I had setup a virtual host on my machine and promptly forgot about it. Lots of editing of httpd.conf and http-vhosts.conf. Turns out my editing was flawed and I’d rightly buggered the files.
Luckily Time Machine had a pre-edit copy of each file backed up on my external hard drive. I had changed my Time Machine setup to only backup once every 24 hours as opposed to the default hourly backups. The file from the day before the edits were made was backed up, ready and waiting to be restored. Two clicks later and the files were restored and Apache was working normally. So quick and yet so simple. It’s this pure ease of use that makes Apple leaders in their field.
And now that Time Capsule has launched, Time Machine will become even more useful. Especially for notebooks but even handier for backing up multiple machines to one place. All wirelessly with almost no effort required on the users part. Ingenious!
As we all know, everyone should backup, backup regularly and ensure those backups work, thankfully Apple have made this process so simple that there really is no excuse for not backing up your data. As the song said, “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”

So indeed it is December and things have been pretty quiet around here lately. It’s entirely my fault. I’ve just been so busy with work, DJ-ing & moving house lately that the site has been put on the back-burner. I’ve also been thinking about what I want to do with the site in the future. Half of me is tempted to archive everything and just start again. A fresh start might be what’s needed.
On the Podcast side of things, they’re not dead. Admittedly there has only been one so far (which seems to have been generally well-received) but that’s going to change in the New Year. I’ve a couple of mixes already done that I’d like to get online and there’s some new stuff I want to get working on soon too. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting on our new broadband connection in the new house so for the moment uploading long and large mixes isn’t possible right now. Here’s hoping eircom and Smart Telecom get their fingers out early in the new year and soon we’ll have nice and speedy access to the web.
So for now, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I hope you have a brilliant New Year! Until 2008 and what I’m dubbing, “the year Anto gets his arse in gear!” :)

I had a visit from taoiseach.gov.ie today. I wonder if it was Bertie dropping by for a nose round. If so, do drop me a line Mr Taoiseach. I’d like to ask you some questions.

So there you have it. One minute it’s July and the next minute you wake up and it’s the start of November. Where does the time go at all? Anyway so things have been mad busy with me recently (what’s new?) but the big news of late is that I’m on the move again. Yep it’s time for me to move house again. This time I’m moving down the road to the leafy confines of Ballsbridge. I’m moving in with Kieron and Maureen. Ranelagh has been fun but to be honest it was just getting a bit too expensive for my liking (how ironic that Dublin 4 is going to be less expensive than Dublin 6!). So with the prospect of another rent increase early next year I was thinking about moving anyway. Turns out that Kieron and Maureen’s has come at the perfect time and at the perfect price.
I’m not really looking forward to the actual packing and moving but I am quite excited about moving to somewhere new. But this time it’s moving in with people I know so it’s a little less daunting this time round. So all-in-all it’s quite exciting times. I’ve a month to get sorted so time to load up the bags for the charity shop!
In other news, I’ve not abandoned the Podcasts. Quite the opposite actually. I’ve got some stuff almost ready to put online and I’ve gotten bucket loads of new music that I’m itching to get mixing with. So stay tuned. I promise something nice and soon.

Look again. No that’s not an iPhone it’s the new iPod touch fresh out of Uncle Steve’s pocket. Just launched today the iPod touch is basically an iPhone without the phone. It’s got multi-touch, WiFi, Safari, YouTube, Coverflow, photos, video and even the new iTunes WiFi store. It’s going to come in two versions, 8GB at $299/€299 and 16GB at $399/€399 (so much for the weak dollar eh Apple?!) and will be shipping from the 28th September.
Sure 8GB and 16GB at those prices sounds a bit expensive but I’d imagine this is due to the high cost of flash drives right now. Just like the original iPod, the sizes will increase when the prices come down. Still 16GB isn’t too shabby. And lets be honest, if you have one of the new 160GB iPod classics are you ever going to need that much music on the go and in one place? Most probably not. I’d imagine having a smaller capacity iPod would make me listen to stuff I actually want to listen to and really like. Size aside, it’s going to be hard to resist this little baby. It’s completely gorgeous. I may just be purchasing one sometime soon.
What’s that sound in the distance though? Oh… it’s the Zune jumping off a cliff!

Hark! The about page has finally been updated. 2/3 years after I meant to do it. I’m still tweaking but it’s a start.
Loads on the last month or so (can’t find time to sit down, though I’m sitting as I write this but you know what I mean). More frequent posting will resume soon and I’m working on my next Podcast Mix so stay tune-d.
