It’s always a huge day. Last year over ten thousand took part in the parade itself while an estimated one hundred thousand people watched from the sidelines. It all kicks off at 2pm tomorrow and in the following hours there’s sure to be much fun, enjoyment and laughter. As well as a few million litres of alcohol consumed (and that’s by just me!). I’ll be DJ-ing in The George tomorrow night after the parade so come say hi if you’re around.

If you’re on the other side of the world or otherwise won’t be in Dublin tomorrow, you can be there in spirit by downloading my latest podcast mix, fittingly called Proud. There’s a grand stretch in the evenings and there’s great drying out. Yes, this mix is overdue but it’s been a pretty hectic month what with working, going out, working, going out some more and the Alternative Miss Ireland. So to try compensate, this mix is nice and long. Clocking in at one hour and thirty-two minutes it should be more than enough for you to dance around your house while getting ready to go out, doing the daily commute to work or sweating out your weekend excesses at the gym. As an aside, I’m always intrigued by where people listen to my mixes. If it’s a weird one, like on the top of Everest, pop me a comment below.

The 11th year of the new millennium and still not a jet-pack, hoverboard or flying car in sight. Talk about being promised the future and getting nothing. Anway, with a few days off over the festive season I decided it was time for a new mix to celebrate the upcoming new year. It’s a bit strange this one, it’s got some songs from the Tron Legacy Soundtrack by the amazing Daft Punk and the other remixes might not be what you expect but I think it all works nicely together in the end.

So hopefully you’re not back in work yet and still have a few days to go out party like it’s 1999 (another false promise, thanks Prince) so stick it on while you’re getting ready and turn it up!

For as long as I can remember really, I’ve been fascinated by clothes and by how people dress and present themselves. Suppose I can blame mother for that influence. She was always a bit mad for clothes and some of her choices were crazily brilliant.

    Growing up and through my late teens I guess I had the interest but not the means and just pretty much made do with what I had but from my early twenties my love for clothes grew from an interest in what I wear to almost pure obsession.

    I don’t often make New Year’s resolutions because I never realistically stick to them. And besides, if you’re going to decide to do something, just do it. You don’t have to wait until January 1st every year to start something. But the exception to this was in January 2009 when I decided that 2009 was going to be “Fun With Fashion.” I consciously decided that I was going to have as much fun with what I wear as humanly possible. Throw all caution to the wind and just go for it. If it feels good, wear it and don’t give a damn what people think.

    It was a thoroughly liberating year. I got to wear some crazy stuff, some not so crazy stuff and just generally had a great time while doing it. I explored options I wouldn’t have previously considered, I wasn’t afraid to give things a try and if I liked them, to try them again.

    Following from that, this year’s not-a-New-Year’s-resolution-New-Year’s-resolution is to take that one step further. 2010 is “Fuck it, let’s go crazy!” And by that I don’t mean start wearing swan-inspired outfits like good ol’ Björk, I mean, let’s push it to the next level. Let’s keep going and see what happens. Hell, it’s only the end of February and already this year I’ve been spotted wearing a tea-cup, saucer and spoon hat, deer antlers and various masks. Not for day-to-day office wear or popping to Tesco mind you, but for the more theatrical aspect of nights out or DJ-ing. Though day wear has taken a turn towards the more fun aspects of dressing for a day job.

    I’m brimming with ideas and I honestly think with positive influences of people like Lady Gaga, Paloma Faith and Daphne Guinness etc. constantly pushing the boundaries, I really believe that the more crazy ideas are becoming more accepted in the mainstream.

    So here’s to 2010 and having more fun with what we wear. Wonder if Gareth Pugh would make me something?!

There are two very small mistakes in there (see if you can spot them) and while normally I’d freak out about them (being a perfectionist has its downside!) I’ve decided to leave them in there. After all it’s recorded live and sure everyone makes mistakes.
