iMac
I’ve spent a bit of time over the past week or so getting acquainted with my latest new toy. A shiny new 20″ Intel iMac. I’d been lusting over the prospects of Intel goodness ever since the announcement of the transition to Intel last year. I was gonna save up and get myself a MacBook Pro to replace my trusty G4 PowerBook but the price and convenience of being able to have a desktop and a laptop won out in the end. I went for the basic config but pimped out the RAM to 2GB and the hard-drive to 500GB (Ooh.. half a terabyte!) and so far I’m incredibly impressed. It’s a beautiful machine and the fact that everything is in the one enclosure is just perfect! The dual core processor certainly lives up to its hype as it blazes through everything. The extra RAM helps too allowing me to run loads and loads of apps at once. Like running Traktor and iTunes is a breeze on the iMac whereas it was a chore (and sometimes hart-stopping experience) on the PowerBook.
Once I’ve finally moved all the data from the PowerBook (or Marsha as I call her) to the iMac (as-yet she’s not been christened… suggestions welcome!) I’ll give her a complete erase and reinstall and she should nice and nippy again. Now all that’s left to do for the iMac is to install Windows… as if!
