It’s Showtime
So the much anticipated “It’s Showtime“ event happened today and Apple have dropped some nice goodies including the new iPod Shuffle, an updated 5th generation iPod, updated and redesigned iPod nano and version 7 of iTunes.
iTunes 7 brings with it some nice new features. Biggest is the ability to purchase movies from the iTunes Store (in the US for now at least), games for the iPod and a restructuring of the interface. Most noticeable is the addition of coverflow which is a really nice and very slick way of browsing albums and album art in iTunes (must get updating my album art!). Another really nice feature is the iPod Summary which gives a very nice ‘at-a-glance’ view of how stuffed (or un-stuffed) your iPod is. Also incorporated into the summary page are the various iPod options panels and preferences. A very nice and (yet again, slick) way of bringing everything together and right into iTunes.
But the nicest surprise has been the addition of ‘gap-less’ playback for iTunes and the iPod. This is something I’ve been waiting for since I purchased my first iPod back in 2003. It really was annoying to be listening to a mixed album and to have a gap in-between tracks. Thankfully this has now disappeared! Vive le ‘uninterrupted’ music!
